Safer Communities
You can contribute to a safer community and lower crime statistics simply by changing your behavior.
- Never leave wallets or purses in vehicles.
- Don't leave your keys in your vehicle.
- Lock your house/out buildings when you leave the yard.
- Never leave your vehicle unlocked and running.
- Take better care to protect your personal information
- Let your neighbors know if you're going to be gone for an extended period of time, or have someone check your place on a regular basis while you're gone.
- Report suspicious vehicles as soon as possible.
- Learn about frauds and educate the vulnerable people in your life - seniors, new Canadians, anyone you think may be vulnerable to a sob story or to aggressive, threatening phone calls, emails, texts or other electronic means of communicating. Cyber Crime is expanding rapidly around the globe and is a very serious threat to all of us. Those responsible often operate off-shore, which makes investigating and prosecuting extremely complex and difficult. Hence it is so important to protect your personal information.
I.C.E. (In Case of Emergency)
Ponoka County Peace Officers encourage the use of I.C.E. Every cell phone user should program this acronym into their cell phone, with a current contact number for the person they wish to be notified in case of emergency. All emergency responders are trained to look for this information on your cell phone. Please consider this pro-active response.
